NEST
Preserving Traditions

In 2019, NEST assisted in the building of a new purpose-built factory in Varanasi, India, to preserve the silk weaving skills which have been such a vital part of India’s history and were at risk of being lost.

The factory ensures that that individuals are able to becomes masters in their craft, thus supporting artisanal communities and working to change systems that were becoming barriers to progress, whilst also providing the community with jobs, training and dignity.

The Rumi Foundation, together with NEST, has been able to better equip artisan partners, ensuring the inclusivity of women, rural communities and others who are struggling to generate meaningful income.
