Obama
Foundation
Since April 2018 when The Rumi Foundation first worked with the Obama Foundation to explore a shared thinking regarding the importance of community and personal citizenship, the Foundation has gone on to forge an ever closer working partnership through initiatives in both Europe and in Africa.
In July 2018 President Obama invited Lord Verjee to join his delegation of 40 global CEO’s and philanthropists in Johannesburg to launch the inaugural Obama Foundation Leaders: Africa programme. As part of the delegation, which included representatives of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Alibaba & the Emerson Collective, Lord Verjee had the opportunity to meet with 200 emerging leaders and discuss potential ways The Rumi Foundation might support some of the important work that would be informed and led by Africans themselves.
More recently, in April 2019, The Rumi Foundation partnered the Obama Foundation and led a delegation of emerging leaders to President Obama‘s European Town Hall in Berlin. At the event, Lord Verjee and President Obama met with 300 extraordinary young activists and social entrepreneurs from all across Europe to share thoughts and experiences in areas such as government, civil society, journalism, transparency, food security, entrepreneurship, anti-discrimination, integration issues, and technology.
The Rumi Foundation is privileged to work alongside The Obama Foundation on a shared vision to create a platform for more thoughtful, more compassionate and more empowered leaders in Europe and across the world.
